Professor Osamu Hiroi, who passed away in April 2006, was involved in the complete range of disaster-related research based on social psychology and information and behavior theory. With his leading role in disaster information research in Japan, he made a number of contributions including serving on national advisory panels and mass media appearances. Professor Hiroi strongly promoted the importance of comprehensive disaster research, and therefore, conceived the idea of establishing a wide ranging institute. Today CIDIR carries on his will and work.
CIDIR has established the Hiroi Library, which collects vast amounts of literature, articles, and investigative data for the use of all those interested in disaster information research.
